Who We Are

Rachel MadanRachel Madan is a world-leading expert in museum sustainability. She is the founder and Director of Greener Museums, a sustainability company dedicated to serving the cultural community. Greener Museums has helped organisations including all four Tate Galleries, National Museums Liverpool, the National Library of Scotland and the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport to understand the sustainability challenges they face and implement strategies to reduce carbon and ultimately save money.

Rachel writes regular columns for Museums and Heritage Online and Museums and Galleries Magazine, and has been featured in the Museums Journal, Museum Identity Magazine and Museums Practice, amongst other publications. She is frequently in demand as a speaker and her previous engagements include the Smithsonian, the Tate Galleries, the UK Museums Association and the Museums, Sustainability and Growth Conference 2010.

Rachel is a Fellow of both LEAD International’s Leadership for Sustainable Development Programme and the UK Government’s Cultural Leadership Programme. She is a trained coach and facilitator. Prior to working with the cultural sector, Rachel’s sustainability consulting clients included Marks and Spencer, Clifford Chance and 3i.

Rachel holds a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Rochester, New York and an MSc in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics.
